English: Shovels stand ready to flip over some dirt before the groundbreaking ceremony for the Nov. 5, 2009, Fort Hood Memorial at the Killeen Civic Center, July 22, 2014. The memorial was designed by Salado artist Troy Kelley, who asked the family members of each victim killed in the tragedy to tell him which objects were most dear to their lost loved ones. He then created sculptures representing each victim using those objects as symbols of their personalities and life. The 13 sculptures will be incorporated into the finished memorial, which will include a garden, a pavilion, and an American flag. Family members and organizers hope to see the project completed by the end of the year. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Ken Scar, 7th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment)
