English: Paul Benson, World War II veteran who was part of the initial surge that stormed the beach of Normandy, meets Brig. Gen. Gracus K. Dunn, Commanding General, 85th Support Command, May 27, before the Memorial Day ceremony in Arlington Heights. Benson was awarded three Bronze Stars for his faithful service to our country during World War II and shares his story with whoever he meets at events such as the Arlington Heights Memorial Day parade and ceremony. Arlington Heights, Ill. hosts one of the largest Memorial Day parades in Illinois with close to 10, 000 spectators in attendance and 4,500 participants. The ceremony in Memorial Park commemorates the ultimate sacrifice made by the U.S. Armed Forces members from Arlington Heights. This year marked 60 years since the end of the Korean War and 40 years since the last combat troops left Vietnam.
