No 63 West Street, Bourne, Lincolnshire

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: No 63 West Street, Bourne, Lincolnshire The imposing Victorian gothic frontage of No 63 West Street hides its origins as a maltings and grain warehouse, the buildings enhanced by a previous owner, John Gibson, who wanted to give his home a touch of elegance in 1872 and even left his initials above the upper central window. In 1896, the building was taken over by the Bourne Institute to provide healthy recreation, education and mutual intellectual improvement through music, reading, amateur dramatics and social activities, originally for men only although the ladies were finally admitted by the end of the century. In 1975, the institute was renamed the Pyramid Club that flourishes today, an organisation owned by its members whose activities are devoted mainly to billiards and snooker.
