Summary
[edit]DescriptionNieuport 12 NAM Ottawa MDF 8562.jpg |
English: Nieuport 12 at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa, Canada, following extensive restoration to original condition. This aircraft was donated, along with a French 75mm cannon and a large collection of propaganda posters to the Canadian Dominion Archivist Sir Arthur Doughty and after being shipped to Canada, was used for war bond drives until the influenza outbreak resulted in further war bond fundraising being cancelled, and it being placed in storage. In the late 1960s it was taken out of storage and in the absence of any information, was modified by the Air Force to appear as a Beardmore-built Nieuport 12, with a new fin and rudder to replace those lost during its travels, and the engine was replaced with a Clerget, as references indicated was the correct engine. During restoration, photos as it appeared during the war bond drive were discovered, the original engine was identified, located, and reinstalled, damaged components rebuilt, along with a new rudder and tail skid. |
