English: Newhaven cliffs geology To quote a University of Brighton website: "At Newhaven, early Tertiary sandstones and clays mantle the cliff top immediately west of the harbour". The mantle is above the familiar chalk of most cliffs around here. "The weak clays, in particular, are prone to landsliding, occasionally spilling over the cliff edge". |
