Shales in the Mississippian of Kentucky, USA. This is the New Providence Shale, which is a member of the Borden Formation, a deltaic succession of Early Mississippian age. Here, the New Providence is mostly gray clayshales. Phosphatic nodules are concentrated at the base in a glauconitic shale. Stratigraphy: New Providence Shale Member, Borden Formation, Lower Mississippian Locality: MacDonald Knob Outcrop - roadcut along side road, west of the interstate, between Shepherdsville & the southern outskirts of Louisville, Bullitt County, Kentucky, USA (38° 00’ 44.51” North latitude, 85° 41’ 59.51” West longitude) |
