Description

Via Verde, a LEED Gold, mixed-income housing development in the Bronx, sets a new standard for how design and energy efficiency can help improve residents’ health and create a sense of community. For example, Via Verde’s rooftops serve residents by providing fresh produce in community gardens, places to socialize in public spaces, and energy from solar panels. Via Verde is the Honorable Mention for EPA’s 2013 National Award for Smart Growth Achievement in the category of Built Projects. The award is given annually for creative, sustainable initiatives that better protect the health and the environment of our communities while strengthening local economies.
