Summary

English: Hawt Uuch Vas Fountain is related to Carnival and symbolizes community and spirit, fun and charity. The sculpture depicts five carnival figures, two men, two women and a child, in masks, dancing hand in hand around the fountain. The work was made by sculptor Frans Gast and was unveiled in 1978.
The famous Saint Servatius Basilica at the Vrijthof square in Maastricht. The present-day church is the fourth church built on the site of the grave of Saint Servatius, an Armenian missionary who was bishop of Tongeren and died allegedly in 384 AD in Maastricht. A small chapel on the saint's grave was replaced by a large church around 570. This church was replaced by a larger pilgrim church in the late 7th century, which was then replaced by the present-day structure, which was built in several stages over a period of more than 100 years. |
