Title |
Neolithic leaf-shaped arrowhead (point) |
||
Description |
English: Incomplete flint leaf-shaped arrowhead, lozenge-shaped in plan, profile and section. The arrowhead has been bifacially worked on all margins, but has been more extensively worked on the right margin of the dorsal face, and the left margin of the ventral face, to form the point. Some cortex remains on the opposite margins, the left margin of the dorsal face and the right margin of the ventral face. The base of the arrowhead, where it would have been hafted, has been broken off, probably during use. The flint is a mottled light to dark grey colour, and was probably knapped from a local beach pebble. The length to breadth ratio is 3:2. Bond (2004) identifies the type of arrowhead as Type 1Ad on page 123, Fig.5.106 (after Green 1980), and illustrates a similar example on page 134, Fig.5.120, No.F39, which are both dated to the earlier Neolithic. |
