Battersea enamel factory- the most famous in England but very short lived, operating at York House, Battersea, between 1753-1756, specialized in small objects. But most of the objects commonly called Battersea enamel were in fact made at Bilston. Bilston enamel factory was established before 1749 until 1831 (in 1790s the factories began to decline). The best are among the most appealing English contributions to the Rococo style, painted with landscapes, bouquets of summer flowers, etc. (Fleming and Honour, pp.61-62 and p.91) |
