English: A gathering of troops, European residents and local people at the unfurling of the British flag outside the German Government Station on the surrender of Nauru. Empty cannon shells are encircling the flag pole, some of which have been tied from the top of the pole. Note the troops in the background holding rifles at the slope with bayonets attached. Note the two young children (left and centre) sitting on the shoulders of adults to achieve a better view.
