Happy 2017 National Public Lands Day! Thank you to the volunteers who gave back to public lands across the Pacific Northwest on Sept. 30, 2017! In these photos, over 115 middle school students and other volunteers completed a massive clean-up project along the Rogue River. In all, 4,000 pounds of trash was collected. Elsewhere, volunteers, a local Boy Scouts troop and partner agencies worked together to clean up the Stewart Pond area of the West Eugene Wetlands. Dozens of volunteers at Lopez Island in the San Juans removed 420 pounds of trash from the BLM national monument in Washington state. About 60 volunteers cleared and improved trails at Fishtrap Recreation Area near Sprague, Washington. Other volunteers in central Washington erected a new BLM sign at Liberty Recreation Site. In southern Oregon, volunteers from Lakeview High School, Oregon Natural Desert Association and a local Boy Scouts of America troop cleaned up a mile of fencing at Devils Garden Wilderness Study Area. Near Coos Bay, Oregon, about 55 volunteers picked up trash and cleared brush from the Blue Ridge Trail System. At Yaquina Head on the Oregon Coast, visitors enjoyed free entrance and volunteers helped with trail maintenance. Thanks again to all the volunteers helping America’s public lands!
