English: The Swedish Lion Monument is a memorial to those who perished in the battle of Narva between the armies of the Swedish King Carl XII and the Russian Czar Peter I on November 19, 1700. The original monument was erected in 1936, but it only lasted eight years before being utterly destroyed in 1944 by a Soviet bombardment of Narva. The replica found here today was financed by Sweden and unveiled on November 18, 2000, just in time for the 300th anniversary of the battle.
