| Description | Napa Creek’s widened channel and recently completed box culverts (shown at left) were put to use as rain poured in downtown Napa, Calif., March 14, 2012. The culverts - tunnels large enough for a car to drive through - direct flood water out of Napa Creek and reroute it directly to the Napa River, reducing the chance that the creek will spill over into nearby neighborhoods. The work is part of the $14.8 million, American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009-funded Napa Creek Project, a joint effort of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District, the city of Napa, and the Napa Flood Control and Water Conservation District to reduce the flood risk for the city.
