[edit]DescriptionNamibia (MODIS 2019-05-07).jpg |
English: On May 2, 2019, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a beautiful true-color image of Namibia.
The soft orange sands of the Namib Desert are one of the most striking features of the Republic of Namibia. This super-arid region receives moisture primarily from the fog that forms on the Atlantic Ocean, allowing scant vegetation along the coastline. The Namib Desert ends abruptly, with rocky outcrops and broken cliffs of the Great Escarpment rising steeply from the inland dunes. Further inland the Great Escarpment gives way to a high elevation central plateau. |
