Description
English: Nagarjuna Sagar Dam built on Krishna river is situated between Nalgonda district of Telengana and Guntur district of Simandhra. It is one of the few infrastructures of India which resulted in the Green Revolution of India. It irrigates the dry lands of many districts of Simandhra and Telengana namely, Guntur, Nalgonda, Khammam, Prakasam,etc.,. Apart from irrigation it also provides hydroelectric power to a huge area. Hence directly or indirectly, this dam is responsible for developments in many places. Unfortunately the lake namely Nagarjuna Sagar created by the dam submerged an ancient Buddhist settlement Nagarjunakonda from which the dam got its name.
