Although most subway lines are back to normal after Hurricane Sandy, there is a different story behind the scenes. Workers at New York City Transit's Coney Island Yard are throwing switches by hand as a result of damage from the superstorm. The yard was pummeled with about four feet of salt water, mounds of storm-driven sand, and sustained high winds. This photo shows Signal Maintainer Victor Cubero operating a switch manually.
