In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, MTA New York City Transit employees partially dismantled R32 subway cars and loaded them onto trucks to transport them to the Rockaway Peninsula. The cars will serve as special shuttle trains that will travel along the peninsula. The shuttle will allow New York City Transit to partially restore A train service while crews continue to rebuild the A train's tracks across Jamaica Bay.
