Description
English:

Red brick city street with three cars parked next to tall connected buildings.

The Jayne Building was constructed in 1850 just east of Third and Chestnut Streets. At eight stories tall, it was considered a towering achievement for the time, and was extolled by a number of historical architects to be a forerunner of the modern skyscraper. These arguments did not save the structure and the Jayne Building was demolished in 1957. The site is now occupied by the Museum of the American Revolution.
