English: World War 1 Cannon Captured at Vimy Ridge.
German 10.5cm Kanone 14 Serial Nr. 590, 1917 The First World War German field cannon was won by the people of Albert County in the Victory Loans Competition of 1919. The Canadian government set specific targets for each county across Canada. A “war trophy” was awarded to the county in each province that raised the most money over their set goal. In New Brunswick, Albert County had the distinction of more than tripling their goal of $110,000.00 by raising a total of $347,6000.00, which was enough to win the K-14 War Trophy. The K-14 “War Trophy” arrived by train on May 25, 1920 at Cape Station and was then pulled by horses to the Hopewell Cape “square”. For generations the “Victory Cannon” has stood as a proud reminder that great things can be achieved when the citizens of Albert County work together. The German 10.5cm K-14 n.A. is a rear light artillery cannon. Only seven 10.5 cm K-14 cannons exist in the world today! Two are in Canada ~ at Hopewell Cape, Albert County, New Brunswick and at the Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. Capture of the Kanone 14 590 Under Canadian leadership on the first day of the offensive attack at the Battle of Vimy Ridge on 9 April 1917, the German 10.5 cm K-14 s/n 590 was captured by the 27th Battalion (City of Winnipeg), 6th Infantry Brigade, 2nd Canadian Division od Canadian Expeditionary Forces (CEF) at Farbus near Vimy, France.
