PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii (December 7, 2017) Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Hawaii’s Paving & Heavy Equipment Shop spent three days learning how to properly use its new $85,000 Rayner Pavement Saver II (D500) machine. The equipment, which provides rapid capability to sealcoat existing asphalt pavement, was delivered to the command on Oct. 31, 2017. Training was conducted for employees from Dec. 6 – 8 at the Hickam Professional Military Education Center parking where they cleaned, sealed, and restriped the lots. It was a great opportunity for training and a customer project was quickly completed. The Pavement Saver II machine will protect and extend the life of existing asphalt pavement by sealcoating it. This is a better, more cost-effective approach to pavement maintenance and both the Navy and Air Force will benefit from the equipment and employee expertise being added to Public Works Department Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam capabilities.
