Description
English: The first of NASA's two ER-2 high-altitude Earth science aircraft was maneuvered into place beside NASA's DC-8 flying laboratory and the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) 747SP in the cavernous Dryden Aircraft Operations Facility hangar in Palmdale, CA. The two ER-2s, civilian versions of the military U-2S, were transferred from NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards, CA to the Palmdale facility, their new base of operations for science missions around the globe.
