Description
English: "N9893Z Curtiss C-46D Commando Lufthansa Cargo(Capitol Aws) STR 30MAR66

Operated for Lufthansa Cargo by Capitol Airways. Taken at Stuttgart (STR)

This aircraft was delivered new to the US Army Air Force in Dec-44 serialled 44-77574. The USAAF was renamed the US Air Force in Sep-47. It served with the USAF until it was ‘demobbed’ and sold to Capitol Airways as N9893Z in Mar-61. It was wet leased to Lufthansa Cargo in Sep-65, returning to Capitol in Jul-69. It was sold to Shamrock Airlines in 1973 and sold to Caribbean Air Services in 1976. From there it became HK-2020 with La Urraca in Jan-78. It was sold to Aerosucre Colombia in 1979 and sold again to Selva Colombia in 1992. I can find no further information and by 1992 the aircraft was almost 50 years old so I assume it was retired and broken up at Selva’s base at Villavicencio."
