Description Darmera peltata—umbrella plant. In these PC times "umbrella plant" is the preferred name, although many references still call it "Indian rhubarb." The rhubarb comes from the sprintime leafstalk use as food. Beautiful flowers appear before the leaves in spring. The leaves grow quite large, sometimes over 24 inches across. These leaves atop stalks over 3 feet tall form an umbrella. The leaves turn russet in autumn before dying in winter. Photographed at Regional Parks Botanic Garden located in Tilden Regional Park near Berkeley, CA.
