Description
English: This print is taken from ‘Voyage pittoresque dans le Brésil’, published in 1835, by the German artist Johann Moritz Rugendas. This book, which contains more than 100 images, was an important record of early 19th-century Brazil and shows the significant role played by slavery in Brazilian society at the time.
