Nâga-balustrade du coté des dieux (deva) de la "Chaussée des géants" du temple Preah Khan exposé au musée Guimet Les blocs de cette allée du temple Preah Khan ont été démontés et prélevés par Louis Delaporte (officier de marine français), à partir de 1873, puis remontés pour l’Exposition universelle de 1878 à Paris où ils ont permis à un vaste public de découvrir l'art khmer. La sculpture du Nâga à sept têtes, en grès, de 4m25 de hauteur, pesant onze tonnes, qui était à l'origine située à gauche sur la balustrade du temple est restée au musée Guimet où elle accueille les visiteurs dans la grande salle du rez-de-chaussée consacrée au Cambodge. Dans la mythologie khmère, le Nâga évoque l'arc-en-ciel qui relie le monde des hommes au monde des dieux, c'est pourquoi il est représenté sur les balustrades des chaussées qui permettent d'accéder aux temples en passant au-dessus des douves. Les douves symbolisent l'océan des origines. L'enceinte extérieure du temple symbolise la chaîne de montagnes qui entoure le temple-montagne, lui-même symbole du Mont Mérou, la demeure des dieux. Selon la cosmogonie hindoue, le Mont Mérou comprend 108 crêtes, dont les 5 crêtes principales représentées par les sanctuaires les plus élevés au centre du temple Les naga-balustrades évoquent également le mythe du barattage de la mer de lait.
