Summary

[edit]
Description

This aviation museum is located a few miles east of Edinburgh on a former RAF airfield.

Visible in this photo, clockwise from top-left: A BAC 111 airliner; an F4 Phantom and a Blackburn Buccaneer; a SEPECAT Jaguar (partly hidden and in desert camouflage); a de Havilland Comet 4 and lastly a AVRO Vulcan B2 which was involved in attacking Argentine forces in The Falkland Islands in 1982. (Beside the Vulcan is a Blue Steel stand-off nuclear-tipped missile, which the Vulcan was designed to carry.)

In hangars there are many more aircraft, some historic and also Concorde G-BOAA.

The airfield itself is historic in that in 1919 the British airship R34 made the first airship crossing of the Atlantic, flying from East Fortune to Mineola, New York.

The only active aviation that now takes place here is a small area where Microlight aircraft fly from and it's from there that my photo flight was flown.
