Description

O Museu Nacional do Teatro e da Dança é o museu nacional e o grande arquivo das memórias e da História das artes do espectáculo em Portugal. Através das suas colecções, procura desenvolver o conhecimento tanto da história e da situação actual das artes do espectáculo, bem como tratar, conservar preservar, organizar, investigar, documentar e divulgar todas as suas colecções O Museu está instalado no Palácio Monteiro-Mor, um edifício do século XVIII que foi restaurado e adaptado especificamente para este efeito. Actualmente, a colecção do museu, que começou a ser constituída em 1979, já apresenta perto de 250.000 peças. Estas incluem trajes e adereços de cena, cenários, figurinos, cartazes, programas, discos e partituras e cerca de 120.000 fotografias. Existe também uma biblioteca especializada com 35.000 volumes.

O Museu Nacional do Teatro e da Dança tem apresentado periodicamente exposições temporárias dedicadas a companhias de teatro, a figuras ligadas ao mundo do espectáculo e a aspectos menos conhecidos do teatro e da dança , assim como de actividades das Artes do Espectáculo em geral.
