Description
English:

a deer bounds across a smoldering prairie

Fires within the park are usually slow-moving ground fires and wildlife is adapted to dealing with them. Wildland Fire performs prescribed burns in the park every year to benefit the prairie and its animals. Grazing animals like deer, bison, and elk usually have no trouble avoiding these fires and return to the burned area shortly after to lick minerals from the ashes. Grass and other plants return to the burns within weeks.
