Summary
[edit]DescriptionMughal coat - 1800s - Cleveland Museum of Art (29619360384).jpg |
Man's coat of embroidered, hand-loomed cotton from the 1800s. Part of the exhibit "Art and Stories of Mughal India" at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio. The Mughals were descended from Central Asian nomadic horse tribes. A coat such as this was common, because it kept dust from the pants. Coats such as this continued to be popular into the 1800s, and were often woven of such fine, thin thread as to be extremely lightweight and semi-transparent. |
