Description
English: Mrs. Laura R. Cotton was a nurse who served under her maiden name of Miss Laura R. Cotton during the American Civil War. Known to Union soldiers as "Miss Laura," she enlisted in September 1862, and served for the duration of the war at the Citizens Volunteer Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Among her patients were 300 Union soldiers who had been wounded during the Battle of Antietam. Post-war, she married George Tyson, became a member of the National Association of Civil War Army Nurses and, in 1910, resided in Chelsea, Massachusetts.
