العربية: عاشوراء هو اليوم العاشر من شهر مُحَرَّم في التقويم الهجري، ويُسمَّى عند المسلمين بيوم عاشوراء وهو اليوم الذي نجّىٰ الله فيه موسى من فرعون ويصادف اليوم الذي قُتِل فيه الحسين بن علي حفيد النبي محمد في معركة كربلاء، لذلك يعدّه الشيعة يوم عزاء وحزن. كما وقعت العديد من الأحداث التاريخية الأخرى في عاشوراء. ويوم عاشوراء عطلة رسمية في بعض الدول مثل إيران، باكستان، لبنان، البحرين، الهند، العراق، والجزائر. ويعدّ صيام يوم عاشوراء سُنة عند أهل السنة والجماعة، وصيامه يُكفّر ذنوب سنة ماضية.

हिन्दी: आशूरा इस्लामी कैलेंडर के पहले महीने मुहर्रम की दसवीं तारिख को कहते हैं. आशूरा के दिन हज़रत मुहम्मद के नवासे हजरत इमाम हुसैन और उनके परिवार को करबला के मैदान में शहीद कर दिया गया था।
