Mount St. Helens is an active stratovolcano located in Skamania County, Washington. The volcano is located in the Cascade Range and is part of the Cascade Volcanic Arc. Mount St. Helens erupted on May 18, 1980, killing 57 people. The volcano lost more than 1,500 feet of its crater in the eruption. Mount St. Helens contains the world's newest glaciers. To the right of the collapsed portion of the horseshoe-shaped crater are the Toutle Glacier and Talus Glacier. Inside the crater is the aptly named Crater Glacier. |
