During the day we met many families home-ward bound from church in their big-wheeledcarts drawn by sturdy horses. These carts, likethe New York street cars, always afford roomfor one more, and we counted as many as elevenpeople in one cart, all dressed in the customarygarb of Brittany; the men with their wide-brimmed straw hats, with the broad black-velvetribbons hanging down behind, and the womenwith their best Sunday caps. It was noticeablethat the horses did not pay the slightest atten-tion to our motor, nor did any of the people,other than to give us a serious nod as we wentspinning by them. During the forenoon we passed through anumber of little villages, all of which had theirchurches, toward several of which the Pardonparade was wending its way.
