Montserrat Mountain and Monestary Catalonia Spain

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Located in Catalonia, 45 km Northwest of Barcelona, the Parc Natural de la Muntanya de Montserrat gives home to the Benedictine Monastery Santa Maria.

The massif of Mount Montserrat is the result of the erosion of hard rock (conglomerate) and softer ones (clays and sedimentary rocks) over thousands of years. The highest peak, Sant Jeroni, stands 1,238 metres above sea level. The massif is a natural park and covers an area of approximately 3,600 hectares.

The Monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat and the Way to the Holy Grotto have been listed as Assets of Local Cultural Interest (BCIL) by the Catalan government since 2001.
