Summary
[edit]DescriptionMons Mill - geograph.org.uk - 145816.jpg |
English: Mons Mill. A very large Cotton mill that was originally powered by a monstrous cross compound mill engine with a flywheel grooved for about 73 ropes and built by Carels in Belgium. This was where the bricked-up opening is. The engine house, boiler house and chimney have all been demolished. The very plain end wall indicates that this was designed as a double mill, never finished. Note the cobbled yard and mill gates.
The mill has since been demolished, and in August 2005 there was a Planning Notice on the site re a proposed residential care home. |
