Summary
[edit]DescriptionMonmouth's Ash, Horton Heath - geograph.org.uk - 1764569.jpg |
English: Monmouth's Ash, Horton Heath This is a general view towards Monmouth's Ash, as there is no closer access.
In 1685 the Duke of Monmouth, after being defeated at Sedgemoor, was found hiding beneath an ash tree, in a ditch on Horton Heath. He was later beheaded on the 15th July on Tower Hill, London. The spot is known to this day as Monmouth's Ash and although there is still an ash tree there, this is probably not the same one. |
