Summary

Description

Saint Macartan's Cathedral, Monaghan, County Monaghan, Ireland

English: Blessed Sacrament Chapel with the tabernacle, created by Richard Enda King. Description by Father Laurence Flynn: The tabernacle is cast in bronze and plated in silver and gold. It suggests a tent, with the exodial and johannine motif of presence related to that image. Around it the words SOLAS DÉ flow as an uninterrupted river of life. Above and of a piece with it, a descending dove forms the holder for the lamp of the presence with its living flame. (See Elin Griffin, The Cathedral Artists: A Release of Creative Energy. In: A Cathedral Renewed: St Macartan's, Monaghan, p. 60.)
