| Description |
At Bender in Transnistria. This is the morning train between Chisinau, Moldova and Odessa, Ukraine. The train passes through Transnistria before crossing the Dnieper River and the Ukraine border. The only border formalities that take place between Moldova and Ukraine are the entry passport check for Ukraine. Travelers don't get a Moldovan exit stamp or any check by Transnistrian officials. There is a immigration office in the Tiraspol station for passengers wishing to stay in Tiraspol. The locomotive is an M62 type, rated at 1900hp, built in the Soviet Union. They were constructed from 1965 through 1994 with over 3000 completed. Most were supplied to Soviet Block countries. They are considered tough, reliable, easy to service locomotives though they have a reputation for being very hard on track. Many remain in service but repowered which more efficient diesel engines. |
