Description

If you have never seen such a gun 93 L52 (caliber 15.5 cm) position, you can not really imagine how huge the embrasures are. I, the jerk wearing this washed out blue jeans, stood there once to show it. These Swiss fortress guns are as the only ones of the world operational and therefore classified. The number and locations must remain secret. With these positions, the main Alpine crossings are protected. Today, there are indeed more modern mobile artillery systems, but a quarter of Switzerland consists of mountains. That's why the artillery fire in Switzerland is gunfire of fortresses. This was an investment for the future, so as not to stand there defenseless in the event of a war. The maintenance of these compact systems costs only a fraction of the big old fortifications. Rhine Valley, Switzerland, Feb 14, 2011.

Update: The guns were shut down in fall 2011, but not declassified.
