Title
Mis-Struck Penny of Edward I from Swinhope
Description
English:  : Silver

Coin. Long Cross Penny, mis-struck, probably of Edward I (1272-1307); if Class 9b, issue of 1299-1300

Obverse description: Image entirely erased, initial cross pattee, so Classes 6b, 8, 9a2-15.

Obverse inscription: +[----]AN[-]?RIE

Reverse description: Long cross, three pellets in each (visible) quadrant

Reverse inscription: CIV[-/--]TA[-]/ED

Diameter: 17.1mm, Weight: 0.95gms.

It appears the coin is wrongly struck, leaving parts of obverse legend (ED) and reverse (?RIE) on the opposite sides of the. The latter may indicate a product of the Chester mint, of which only Class 9b would carry the initial cross pattee.
