Description

Carved bench end finial in poppy head pattern, in Mill Hill Unitarian Chapel, City Square, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Architects Bowman & Crowther of Manchester, building opened 1848.

The wood carvers credited for the work were Edmund Bates (b.ca.1816) and James Adams of Leeds. The firm Bates & Adams flourished as carvers and gilders 1845-1851, working from 5 Gascoigne Yard, Boar Lane, and 9 Basinghall Street, Leeds.
