Mill Hill

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Mill Hill Name of both the road and the peak in the distance having once been the site of a couple of windmills, the last having burnt down in 1890. The lane is the old medieval route northwards out of Shoreham towards Upper Beeding which was closed in 1807 when a newer route along the valley floor was constructed. This is now the current A283. The lane remained little more than a farm track until the Second World War when it was upgraded to allow the army access to ranges on the Downs. Today it provides an access route to the small community based on Truleigh Hill.
