Summary
[edit]DescriptionMilestone on the A246 - geograph.org.uk - 1495126.jpg |
English: Milestone on the A246 Milestones were the SatNav of the era when the horse was the fastest method of road transport. Three mileage distances were given, with the major town or city on the top face (clearly visible from horseback), with mileages for the lesser towns shown on the two side faces, enabling the traveller to see how many miles (s)he had come from the previous town, and how many miles still to go to the next one.
This milestone had LONDON 26 on it; further than I wanted to walk! |
