| Description |
English: This vintage railroad mile marker is at Marion Union Station in Marion, Ohio. It was originally on the north side of the east-west tracks at the site (= to the left in the photo). It was recently erected on the grounds next to the station. Milepost 305 is in reference to the distance from Salamanca, New York ("Milepost Zero") to Marion, Ohio along the original Erie Railroad. From Marion, the line headed southwest to Dayton, Ohio, where milepost 388 was. The post itself is made of concrete with steel reinforcing bars ("rebar") inside. The lower half of the post was originally painted black, the upper part was white, and the number was painted black.
On 3 or 4 May 2024, the cracked and somewhat crumbling milepost was cosmetically repaired with fresh concrete (seen here). |
