Summary
[edit]DescriptionMichelangelo – Study of a Mourning Woman.jpg |
English: "Study of a Mourning Woman", part of "Michelangelo Mind of the Master", a temporary exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States.
Pen and brown ink, heightened with white lead opaque watercolor. Done between 1500 and 1505, this is one of Michelangelo's earlier sketchs. Based on an existing work (probably of Masaccio), this work shows a significant evolution in the use of tension and torsion in the artist's work. This exhibit contains nearly all the drafts, sketches, thought-pieces, and unfinished drawings of Renaissance master Michelangelo. The artist destroyed nearly all his drafts and sketches during his lifetime, and these few works provide the only insight into his working style and artistry. Nearly all of the works here are owned by the Teylers Museum of Haarlem, The Netherlands. |
