From the auction notes: The label on the stretcher stating (in Danish) “This painted study of a fisherman is by Michael Ancher (from 1874 or 75)” is presumably written by the painter and art historian Karl Madsen (1855–1938), who was in Skagen with Ancher in the years mentioned.
