Description
For some unexplained reason the experts at Bruun Rasmussen omitted the fact that this painting seems to be a study for a similarly sized painting from 1896, now at Skagens Museum. Both paintings show the four Holst sisters and a friend, Ida, Anna, Elisabeth Bang (who later married the violinist Anton Svendsen), Minne and Sophie Holst. The experts were also completely silent about the inscription, which the uploader read as stated in the inscription part. Since 2001 this painting has been the most valuable Michael Ancher painting sold at an auction. kunstnyt.dk.
