Description
At kulturarv.dk, the date was given as "1870", while at the source, it was "1870s". Elisabeth Fabritius (see references) did not give a date, but listed it along with the 1876 paintings. Ancher first arrived in Skagen in 1874, so an earlier date seems improbable.

  • This is probably the painting described by Elisabeth Fabritius as no. 97 in her list of early works by Michael Ancher. She uses the title Portræt af fisker med sydvest og pibe (Portrait of a fisherman with sou'wester and a pipe), and writes that it was acquired by the museum in 1984.
