Description

The church of Saint-Liphard

Built on the site of a monastery on the tomb of Saint-Liphard (✝ 565), the church will be dedicated Sunday, October 16, 1104 in the presence of the archbishop of Tours and Paris and Bishop of Orleans , gathered at the council of Beaugency (council annulling the marriage of Philippe Berthe first with Holland, the king already living in households with Bertrade de Montfort).

In reality, there was a rededication.

In 1103, Leo (Lionel Léonel) Meung, a rebel vassal of the Bishop of Orleans, entrenched in the tower of the church with sixty men.

Louis, son of King Philip 1, which from 1102 had defeated several brigands lords of the royal domain, eliminating in 1103 the lord of Meung, Leon, rebellious vassal of the Bishop of Orleans. Louis, the future Louis VI the fat, was associated with power by his father since 1100.

To erase the stain of the presence of armed men in the church, John, bishop of Orleans made a rededication of the church Saint-Liphard in 1104.
